Nadhim Zahawi could see his energy bills cut by £3,600 as a loophole allows wealthy owners of second and third residences to receive several energy rebates, we have learned.

In May, former Chancellor Rishi Sunak 'concocted a last-minute support package' for struggling households - after months of rejection of calls for the introduction of a windfall tax on producers' profits of oil and gas.

Under his plans, several homeowners will receive a £400 energy payment for each of their homes, costing the taxpayer around £200million.

The Tories have been urged to close a loophole giving wealthier households extra money for their bills as the cost of living crisis deepens.

Households using prepayment meters - often among the lowest income households - can end up paying a total of £200m more on their energy bills than those paying by direct debit automatic, according to a Labor Party analysis.< /p>
