Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has been accused of part of a 'terrorist campaign' to discredit the inquiry into whether Boris Johnson misled Parliament over Partygate.

Senior Tory MP Sir Bernard Jenkin - who sits on the committee investigating on the Prime Minister this autumn - raged when asked about Ms Dorries claiming a 'witch hunt'.

Asked about repeated attacks by allies of the Prime Minister on the inquiry , Sir Bernard told BBC Radio 4's World At One: "If anyone is unhappy they write to the committee with their arguments and we will be obliged to examine."

The MP said: "But I don't think the committee can respond to what amounts to some sort of publicity campaign to discredit the committee.

Sir Bernard added: “If anyone wishes to criticize him, write to the committee; don't just wage some sort of terrorist campaign to try to discredit the committee, because the Privileges Committee is how we self-regulate our affairs.

Ms Dorries called on four Tory MPs on the committee to step down from the 'witch hunt' and 'Machiavellian process' - with unnamed Johnson allies previously telling the press the inquiry amounted to a "kangaroo court".
