Neil deGrasse Tyson says Elon Musk is a modern-day Thomas Edison

Neil deGrasse Tyson is one of the smartest guys out there, and he's now weighed in on what he considers to be one of the world's greatest visionaries...and he's squarely on Team Musk .

We caught up with Neil at Reagan National Airport on Friday, where he compared the big boss of Tesla to perhaps the most imaginative person in our country's history: Thomas Edison.

Warning... Neil doesn't co-sign all of Elon's ideas. In fact, he thinks some are just empty dreams, but he says Elon is dreaming big, and that's when big things have to happen.

Tyson also has words for the place we call home...that is, a "damn" planet. However, he thinks there is a silver lining with NASA's recent mission crashing into an asteroid.

Neil grouses... if only dinosaurs had some vision, they could be alive today.

And is that a good thing?
