New suits for the new season at Chelsea and Newcastle United

July 18 - With club transfer business in full swing with the start of the new season just weeks away, Chelsea and Newcastle United have both decided to bolster their management by hiring American executives.

Chelsea have confirmed former Manchester City and Derby County commercial director Tom Glick as their new 'business chairman', while Darren Eales is leaving Atlanta United in MLS to take over at Newcastle.

Under their new US rule, Chelsea have implemented a kind of revolving door policy with their top executives. Former chairman, American Bruce Buck, who brokered the deal with the new American owners - venture capitalists Clearlake and their man in the field Todd Boehly - wasted no time sending him after declaring that he would remain president. Once Boehly was in charge, club manager Marina Granovskaia - the driving force behind the club's management and key player negotiator - followed Buck, with Petr Cech stepping down from his role as technical and performance adviser.

Glick will take responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the club, manage business strategy and drive revenue growth. Glick was most recently franchise president of the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

In English football, Glick has served on the Football League Board, the FA Council and the Professional Gaming Council.

Around 300 miles to the north, Saudi owners Newcastle United are bringing Englishman Eales back to England as the club's new chief executive.

Eales leaves MLS Atlanta United where he has overseen the club's formation and entry into MLS since 2014. Together with Eales, they have already won an MLS title and built a thriving football business.

Newcastle owners will expect the same.
