Newly Revealed Footage Shows Tom Cruise Promoting 'Top Gun: Maverick' From Above

If you had to pick one motif that defined movies in 2022, you could do a lot worse than 'Tom Cruise on a Plane'.

Endless words have been written about how 'Top Gun: Maverick' was an undisputed triumph, earning rave reviews from critics and grossing massive box office returns over the course of a year where the film industry desperately needed it. The film's success led to a heightened appreciation for Cruise's commitment to practical effects and performing his own stunts, sparking anticipation for next year's "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part I." /p>

Cruise began stoking the anticipation for both movies at CinemaCon this year, where attendees got to see some early footage of 'Dead Reckoning' as well as one of the first full screenings of 'Top Gun: Maverick' . As IndieWire reported at the time, the screenings were preceded by a pre-recorded video in which Cruise addressed the audience while clinging to a plane flying over South Africa for life.

Now that the footage is available, fans who couldn't make it to the exclusive Las Vegas event can watch the intro for themselves. And, needless to say, Cruise does his own stunts.

Cruise is joined on the air by longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed him in three 'Mission Impossible' movies (they're currently filming a fourth) and co-wrote 'Top Gun: Maverick'. The pair are seen on separate planes, with Cruise expressing his excitement for both films and McQuarrie joking that he needs to stop talking to the public because he has to shoot a scene.

Cruise fans will likely be delighted to see new footage of the actor piloting a plane, as many are already yearning for a third "Top Gun" movie. The "Maverick" cast and crew had no qualms about reprising their roles in another film, but they all admit that it was ultimately Cruise's decision.

"That would be great, but it's all up to TC," Miles Teller recently said. "It all depends on Tom. I've had a few conversations with him about it. We'll see."
