Landing of the NFL in Germany with a DFL cooperation agreement

September 16 – The German DFL has signed a collaboration agreement with the US National Football League (NFL) which will cover "production, broadcast and programming, digital innovation and marketing".

Germany has always been a hotbed of NFL fans in Europe and on November 13 the NFL will play its first regular season game in Germany at the Allianz Arena in Munich between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seahawks from Seattle.

Germany will host one NFL regular season game in each of the next four years, alternating between Munich and Frankfurt.

“Our first regular season game in Germany this fall also provides the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the most successful sports leagues in the world,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"The Bundesliga has long been considered Germany's premier league and one of Europe's best. We look forward to working with the DFL in a process that we believe will be mutually beneficial," a- he continued.

The closer cooperation with the DFL will provide increased efficiency and opportunities for the NFL's ambitions in Europe.

The Bundesliga has a similar expansion ambition in the United States. The DFL opened an office in New York in 2018 as a point of contact for media and marketing partners, as well as to assist clubs with their local market initiatives.

DFL CEO Donata Hopfen said: "The DFL has always worked openly and cooperatively with leagues and organizations around the world to promote the development of sport around the world. We look forward to working closely collaboration with our NFL colleagues on a variety of issues and to gain new insights, particularly as they relate to the sport in the United States."
