12-year-old battles tumor on face, family asks for help

Resident of Ondo State, Tope Ajayi, has wept over the deteriorating health of his son, Femi, who is currently suffering from a tumor on his face.

The 12-year-old has struggled with pain and swelling for over three years and has yet to start high school due to illness.

Tope, who resides in Ikare in Akoko region of Ondo state, revealed that Femi started developing eye pain when he was nine years old.

In a phone conversation with our correspondent on Monday, the sad dad said: "He's been battling the disease for three years. It started in late 2019. It started as a pimple on his face near his eye, and it always hurt him. So my wife pressed on it, and before we knew it, it started to swell.

“Before the swelling started, we always pressed on the boil because we thought it was a pimple and a water-like substance always came out. started to swell. Then we were told he was going to have an operation."

According to Tope, the family had tried to manage the situation by getting painkillers and trying herbal medicines, but unfortunately none of these could offer a solution to the worsening situation .

Tope said: "We got medicine from pharmacies to relieve the pain. Then one of my dad's friends brought a sheet that we had to put on the swelling, but every time we did it it was making our son cry from the pain, so that was not the solution."

The family eventually took Femi to Mount Zion Hospital, Ikare, where he was diagnosed with a tumor and charged €500,000 for surgery to restore him to a normal life.
