19 of the best stats, memes and reactions to England's big World Cup win over Wales

England booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup in style with a brilliant 3-0 win over old foes Wales.

The result means Wales leave Qatar, having finished bottom of the group.

Players including Sorba Thomas and Kieffer Moore said before the match that they would welcome the prospect of knocking England out.

But it wasn't for the Dragons, who went viral on social media six years ago as their dressing room celebrations over England's Euro 2016 exit in Iceland n have not been overlooked in the preparation of this World Cup make-or-break.

The first half was relatively cautious and not a million miles from the form of Friday night's draw against the United States. Gareth Southgate had made a number of changes, bringing in Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden, and his selections were vindicated when England picked up the pace immediately after the break.

Rashford put England ahead with a brilliantly shot free-kick and within moments Foden had doubled the lead.

The Manchester United striker scored three goals in the 68th minute, brilliantly managing to cut inside and finish after netting a long ball from substitute Kalvin Phillips.

The double means Rashford is now tied as the competition's top scorer, alongside French superstar Kylian Mbappe, Ecuador striker Enner Valencia and Dutch star Cody Gakpo.

"It's great for him, he's trained very well. He's been impressive since he came back to us, he could have scored a hat-trick. That free kick is what he's capable of, it's is an incredible strike," Southgate told the BBC.

“At one point I thought they [Rashford and Foden] were both quiet in the first half, so we changed wing. They reacted well, both scoring goals was great."

"It's obviously a great feeling," Rashford said in his post-match interview.

"We were disappointed as a team after the last game, we could have played a lot better. The only way to bounce back is to play better in your next game.

"Moments like this, that's why I play football. I'm really happy today to start the next round of the tournament, because I have a huge ambition for this team and I think we can go much further."
