2023 election: ADC chief backs Amosun to back Otegbeye's candidacy for governor of Ogun state

An opposition leader, African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader Olawale Adebajo has applauded former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for declaring his support for the presidential candidate. ADC governorship, lawyer Biyi Otegbeye.

Amosun, who represents Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, recently voiced his support for Otegbeye while speaking on the Yoruba program of the BBC.

Support for the opposition gubernatorial candidate however sparked controversy and caused some panic within the APC circle and the state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun responded by saying he would not be deterred by this decision.

Adebajo, who spoke to reporters in Abuja, called Amosun's decision patriotic, adding that "Otegbeye is a man of great integrity".

According to Adebajo, Otegbeye an accomplished lawyer and a successful licensed insurer with a Masters in Financial Management, has been described as an attempt to rekindle a culture of leadership excellence for which Ogun State is known.

He noted that Amosun has shown outstanding consistency and unwavering commitment to ensure the emergence of a Yewa-Awori Extractive Governor.

"Since the establishment of Ogun State in 1976, no one from Ogun West, which is populated by Yewa-Awori, has been elected governor while the post has been rotated between the other two senatorial districts , Ogun East and Ogun Central.

“Former state governors have a verifiable background unlike Governor Dapo Abiodun whose background is entangled in controversy. now Obafemi Awolowo University. However, in 2019, he stated that he did not graduate from the same institution.

"If discipline and dogged determination had a face, it would be Senator Ibikunle Amosun and lawyer Biyi Otegbeye. Both have shown resilience, courage and perseverance in their political careers.

"Without a doubt, Amosun showed great courage and conviction in aligning himself with the unity program of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Since Otegbeye's ADC party recently suspended and expelled his presidential candidate, this decision gave Otegbeye a reason to show full support for Tinubu just like Amosu.

Comparing the harmony between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo with that of Amosun and Otegbeye, the ADC leader said that in them the Ogun people found men of honor.

"The way Osinbajo and Buhari have handled their faith without religious rancor can be compared to the agreement that binds Amosun and Otegbeye. The former are bound by unity of faith. The same value system also binds Amosun and Otegbeye, regardless of their actual position. Their synergy is dynamic in its diversity.

"The good people of Ogun State have found favor in the sight of God with the gift of Asiwaju, Amosun and Otegbeye, an alliance which will become a political theme for further study. These patriots are true loyalists : their commitment to people and to a good cause does not depend on favors or advantages. Amosun's support for Otegbeye is only because he has seen what others have not seen: a fertile land ready to serve the people of Ogun State. This coalition and affinity are examples of unity of purpose.

"This unexpected move continues to cause uproar in Ogun State, due to Amosun's known affection for Adekunle Akinlade. Since the latter defected to the PDP and Amosun decided to take his hands off Akinlade's political wheels and people started thinking about the point of connection between Amosun and Otegbeye, the stark similarities between these two undoubtedly led to this unexpected political marriage.”
