2023: Tinubu not denied US visa, will be here soon - Orji Kalu
Chief Senate Whip Orji Kalu has denied reports that All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu was denied a visa to the United States ahead of his planned trip.
Mr. Kalu, in a Facebook post on Saturday, said the former Lagos State governor himself postponed the trip. He added that State Department officials had confirmed to him that Mr. Tinubu would be in the United States during the third week of December.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) had announced that Tinubu would leave the country on December 4 for the UK, and would also travel to the US and other European countries.
According to the CCP, Mr Tinubu will also speak at Chatham House on December 5 to discuss his manifesto.
Meanwhile, Chatham House said on its official website that Mr Tinubu will discuss "his vision and the recently unveiled manifesto for 'renewed hope' in Nigeria, including his policy proposals for economic reform and recovery and how to provide safe and inclusive employment opportunities for Nigerian citizens.”
Mr. Kalu on Saturday said the news that the APC presidential candidate had been denied a visa was fake news.
“As the election approaches, the opposition will spread more fake news against our presidential candidate, but we must always ignore and keep our eyes on the ball. The news that Tinubu was denied a visa to the United States is as fake as other fake news.
“Tinubu postponed the trip himself and was never refused a visa. The United States Department of State has confirmed to me that Tinubu will be received in the third week of December. As our party's presidential candidate with an outstanding personality, he will be warmly welcomed in the United States. OK."
Meanwhile, CCP spokesperson Festus Keyamo, reacting to the news of the visa denial, posted a "copy" of the US visa granted to Mr Tinubu on his verified Twitter page on Saturday.< /p>
“For the troublemakers peddling unfounded rumors that @officialABAT was denied a US visa, you leave us no choice but to show you his current visa (which has always been renewed since time immemorial). This is for the misguided who believe these rumours," he tweeted.
Mr Tinubu's candidacy has come under heavy criticism, particularly following the latest release of the certified copy of a 1992 US money laundering case which showed that he had lost money to the US government after being charged with drug offences. .
