Klopp confident goals will come for Reds winger Diaz

Jurgen Klopp is confident the goals will come for Luis Diaz after the winger was useless in the 2-2 draw at Fulham last weekend.

Diaz missed two Opta-defined 'great chances' in the Reds' opening game of the Premier League season at Craven Cottage, wobbling the post in the first half.

The Colombia international was quick to settle at Anfield after his big move from Porto in January, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances last season.

Liverpool lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in June, but Klopp is backing Diaz to help fill the void left by the Senegal striker.

When asked if Diaz could score 10-15 goals this season, the Reds manager replied: "Oh, that's definitely his quality. We have to see, but of course that's his quality. potential.

"We're working on it, but not specifically with Luis. We're not taking him out because the other two scored and he didn't, so we're showing him how. It's not necessary. 's not a problem. You can't force it

"Last week people were asking 'How can you play without Sadio?', but in November/December everyone was thinking when he would score the next goal, and Mo [Salah] was on fire. Just let it go.

"You see the situations that Luis had, big chances, and he just wasn't lucky. He started the first day with us and participated in all the sessions and that's the most important.

"Everything else will come. In the long term, of course, that's not a problem. It's about being prepared and fighting through times like this."

Klopp urged patience with Diaz ahead of Liverpool's first home game of the season against Crystal Palace on Monday.

He added: "When Sadio played against us he scored three times for Southampton but it's not that he scored every week. He didn't even start the game when he played against us.

"So consistency came with confidence and with teammates, the structure of our game. So it's what we're working on that doesn't change. The way we play should help forwards. our way of playing. It's the way we bring the boys into the situation.

"Of course it's about whether it's in you or not, but it's the way we play, how we position the players, how we protect the players, where we get the balls back.

"And that's how the boys can use their speed in those moments. They'll be in a lot of goal-scoring situations and that makes you the player we remember."
