2023: We will stick to the directives of the national secretariat, says Taraba CAN

The Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said that All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu will not have their support as they will strictly follow the directives of the national secretariat.

Rev. CAN State Chairman Dr. Isaiah Jirapye revealed this to Tribune Online on Monday at Jalingo, while reacting to Senator Kasim Shettima's choice as Tinubu's running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

The CAN president said that the state organ of the association had already submitted to the idea of its national secretariat to reject any political party that presents candidates of the same religion in its candidacy for the presidency.

According to him, the idea of the same religious candidates in a bid for the number one seat in Nigeria was capable of causing disunity among religious groups and evidence of the neglect of other religions in the country.

“I still wonder who sold the idea of candidates of the same religion to the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

“He always claimed to be a smart leader, but his submission to the idea of the Muslim-Muslim ticket is proof that he lacks the intelligence to lead Nigeria.

“We cannot vote for a candidate who fails even at first. We do not want a religious crisis in Nigeria, we are peace loving people and we would continue to embrace peace and go for peace. against anyone portrayed as being against peace between religious groups in the country.

"Tinubu's action proves that he does not want the peace of this country and is a religious bigot who hid his face under some cover but God decided to expose it.

“The order of our national secretariat is our position. We would not support Tinubu, his decision is a negligence towards all Christians in the country and we would ensure that he does not succeed in his journey to become Nigerian President.

“The Tinubu Muslim-Muslim ticket decision is an idea to tell the world that there are no Christians in Nigeria, and it is an idea that comes to divide the country so that we do not don't let it circulate". The CAN President said.
