2023: Why it will be difficult for APC to defeat Seyi Makinde in Oyo – El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has admitted that it will be difficult for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, in 2023.

El-Rufai said so during the commemoration and farewell ceremony held for the outgoing Director General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nteranya Sanginga, on Friday.

The Governor of Kaduna, however, said the APC would do their best to overthrow Makinde, but it would be difficult as he governed well.

The two governors recounted how they argued during a session of the National Executive Council (NEC), over whether to lock down their states in the heat of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“After this debate, I went back to my state and locked it. Seyi (Makinde) went back to his state and did partial confinement. But he locked himself because he contracted the COVID.

"In my condition, I did what I thought was the right thing and he did what was best for his condition.

“We will do our best to defeat you. But I know it will be difficult because you have been a good governor,” El-Rufai said.
