Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State explained why photos of People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and its National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu were missing from the party's campaign materials in the state.< /p>

Mr. Wike said Mr. Atiku chose people from Rivers into the PDP's presidential campaign council without his "input".

"Some people have asked me why they don't see the photo of the presidential candidate (and) party (national) chairman in party campaign materials. I said what are you talking about?< /p>

"The presidential candidate walked into my state (from Rivers) and chose members of the presidential council without any state governor having input.

"So they don't want us to campaign for them, let's campaign for those who want us to campaign for them - senatorial and gubernatorial candidates want us to campaign for them, so we are here to campaign for them."

Governor Wike said as much Monday at the inauguration of the State PDP Campaign Council in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, according to a Punch newspaper report.

"They say they don't want the people of Rivers campaigning for them, are you going to force yourself?

"No," retorted the jubilant crowd.

Speaking further, Mr. Wike said that Mr. Atiku had appointed "Rivers' enemies as members of his campaign council.

"I have never seen how people would disrespect a state like Rivers and single out those who are enemies of the state without our contributions."

The governor, however, did not mention those he called “enemies of Rivers State.”

But PREMIUM TIMES understands that a former National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, who hails from Rivers State, has been appointed as a technical adviser by Mr. Atiku.

In addition to Mr. Secondus, other Rivers State PDP members appointed to the Presidential Campaign Council include two former Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche and Austin Opara.

Others are a senator, George Sekibo; a former senator, Lee Maeba; and a former transport minister under Olusegun Obasanjo, Abiye Sekibo, as well as a retired general, Kenneth Minima.

The PDP was embroiled in a leadership crisis after its presidential primary which was won by Mr. Atiku.
