2nd bridge over the Niger: project fully completed in 2024 – FG

The Acting Federal Comptroller of Works in Anambra State, Seyi Martins, has said that the second Niger Bridge will be fully ready for use by the first quarter of 2024.

However, Martins said the bridge will officially open by December 2022.

He revealed this over the weekend as he received members of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, at the bridge site.

The comptroller said that the first phase of the project is almost complete, adding that only the final asphalt surfacing remains on the Asaba-bound causeway lane with that of the Asaba-bound causeway Onitsha fully laid.

“The bridge project is 95% complete and is expected to be delivered by the end of December 2022, but there is a second phase, which consists of a 3.3 kilometer road approach from the delta side and a 7 km road 1 km approach road on the Anambra side which has not started yet.

"The second phase of the project has not yet started, but the government has seen fit that upon completion of the first phase, it will be open for traffic," he said.

He added that the bridge would be accessible from the Oba interchange on the Onitsha-Owerri road, as a road was being built to connect traffic on the Asaba-Benin highway to it, pending the completion of the second phase.< /p>
