President Abia ADC denounces dissolution of state exco
Following an alleged dissolution of Abia's elected state executive of the African Democratic Congress and subsequent inauguration of an interim state executive by the president party national leader Ralphs Nwosu, party president-elect in Abia Obinna Norman says the action cannot stand.
The CDA National Working Committee had, by a special resolution dated August 1, 2022, dissolved the executives of Abia State and constituted an interim executive body of 11 members for the State.
Headed "Notice of Dissolution of ADC Abia State Exco/Constitution of Interim Exco", the party accused the Abia State exco of "activities recent anti-parties and deliberate efforts by some Abia state executives to undermine our general election candidates, coupled with various allegations of serious misconduct,” and have constituted interim executives for the state.
However, disbanded state exco chairman Norman says congress elected them on May 12, 2022, for a four-year term ending May 12, 2022. May 12, 2026 “and can't just after three months say you are inaugurating another exco.”
Norman said the inauguration of an interim exco "was a jamboree, a monster that the National President tried to create for the reason he knew best. (The) ADC has a constituted exco and the National President has no constitutional rights or powers of dissolution.It is wrong for him to ridicule a party that others saw as a threat a few months ago.
>"As CDA State Chairman, I'm a member of the NEC and I'm only answerable to the NWC and I can't begin to blame the NWC for what he doesn't know. The national president is the overall leader of the party but cannot make decisions in isolation from the NWC, but according to established rules,” he said.
As a result, he says he petitioned the party's NWC, which says it doesn't know, adding, “He acted alone. The CDA constitution is clear and says that for a state exco to be dissolved, there must be periodic complaints from the area or state working committee, and the NWC and SWC, of which I am the President, have not referred any complaints of misconduct or anti-party activity to the National President.
"The constitution also states that after filing the complaints, we will be given a fair trial. This has not happened. As I speak to you, we we haven't seen any letters and we haven't been served yet.If some members are deemed insufficient and you haven't given them a chance to be heard fairly, why did you have to punish the whole exco constituting the 17 LGA Presidents and the state exco?Yet you have chosen an LGA President to become your Acting President.
“It just means that there were no allegations or cases and no one was found guilty. If there's a problem, I haven't been notified yet. I discovered that the said letter was not known to the CNO and the national exco. The ADC is not a one man party, but is made up of responsible men and women who are not thugs.
INEC, Norman said, still recognizes the state-elected exco, stating the national president's action will not stand and expressed belief that the NWC will do the right time in due time thing, noting "this illegality will not stand." I've sworn to uphold the CDA constitution and I'm here to stop the invaders. I will do it to the letter."
