Abia: Committee declares seven-day prayers, fasting ahead of Otti's swearing-in

The Organizing Committee of the “Re-Consecration of Abia State and Dr. Alex Otti Thanksgiving Service” has declared a period of prayer, fasting and thanksgiving of seven days in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued to reporters on Sunday in Umuahia by the chairman and secretary of the committee, Mr. Uzor Nwachukwu and Mr. Bertrand Okeomah, respectively.

The committee said the program was part of planned activities for Otti's inauguration as the 10th governor of Abia on May 29.

He also said the spiritual cleansing should begin with prayer and fasting on Sunday, May 21 and end on Friday, May 26.

According to the committee, the event, which aimed to usher in a new wave of spirituality, would culminate with a “Re-re-dedication Retreat” at Ngwa High School, Aba on May 27.

He further said that the exercise already has the support of leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state.

"As well, a post-dedication Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, June 4 at Umuahia Township Stadium at noon," the statement added.

In the meantime, the state chapter of CAN has called on all its member churches in the state to observe the prayer and fasting sessions.

The body, in a statement by its secretary, Dr Mgbeahuru Okey, said the directive was issued by the state president, His Eminence, Dr Emmanuel Agomoh.

"Let us join hands with other devotees in this very important mission for a new Abia of our collective dream," the CAN statement said.
