Abuja administration removes 3,197 illegal structures and crushes 1,292 motorbikes

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) City Sanitation Task Force has removed approximately 3,197 illegal shacks and structures, as well as destroyed 1,292 commercial motorcycles in the past 14 days.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Shehu Ahmad, said so during a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mr. Ahmad said the removal was to ensure the safety and security of FCT residents as well as maintain cleanliness and ensure residents live without any threat.

"In particular, a total of 123 illegal structures were removed in Katampe Extension and Guzape districts and a total of 3,074 shacks were removed and cleared in Durumi I, II, III, Monkey Village, Dagba, the illegal IDP camp in Durumi District and under some bridges in the Federal Capital City (FCC).

"In addition, a total of 1,292 commercial motorcycles were arrested, confiscated and run over from public view in various districts where their operations were prohibited in accordance with the confiscation order obtained by the court," he said. -he declared.

Mr. Ahmad said that the work team mobilized all the necessary tools (human and material) and started the removal of these identified nuisances, which resulted in the following successes recorded from December 9 to December 22.

He said the FCTA has watched with great concern the increase in illegal developments in parts of the FCC, a blatant disregard for the ban on commercial motorcycle operation, and the proliferation of slums and illegal settlements under the guise of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

He said the most affected districts were: Guzape, Katampe Extension and Lugbe Airport Road, while areas with slums under the guise of IDPs included Durumi, Wasa and Kuchi Goro.
