Accord picks ex-Zamfara SSG Bello Maru as Chris Imumolen's running mate

Bala Bello Maru, former Secretary of the Zamfara State Government, has been appointed running mate of the Accord Party presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen.

The announcement, which was made via a press release made available to The Guardian on Thursday, said the party introduced the North West political influencer after proper consultations and awareness of its powerful political weight in the northern hemisphere.

Speaking on the occasion, Accord National Chairman Muhammad Nalado said from all indications that the party leadership has found good South-North synergy at a time when Nigeria needs to achieve solid form through cross-regional inclusiveness.

He expressed confidence that the party would produce the next president and vice president of Nigeria.

He stressed that it was by common accord that Nigeria had achieved independence and produced nationalists, calling on young Nigerians to take advantage of the youth of 38-year-old Professor Imumolen to achieve the long dreamed of a youth president who will also follow the sage advice of the elders and collaborate with his former running mate.

The vice-presidential candidate, while responding, expressed his gratitude for his selection and said he was the right person for the job.

Bello Maru noted that this followed a long period of consultation and that he was keen on good governance, coming from a state and region grossly terrorized and afflicted by insecurity.

Imumolen, while hailing the Accord leadership, emphasized that the party will win the 2023 presidential election with the support of the youth and all Nigerians.

He welcomed his running mate and described him as a square peg in the right hole.

The announcement comes a day after Imumolen met former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

The meeting in the Ogun state capital is seen as a consolidation visit as it is not the first time the 38-year-old presidential hopeful has visited the former president.
