Mr. Adebayo, in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon, also advised People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Labor Party (LP) candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi respectively to also accept defeat and congratulate Mr Tinubu.

In a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Adewole, who confirmed the authenticity of the tweet, said that his action and his appeal to his counterparts in other parties had become necessary following "the path they are taking currently and which could lead Nigeria to a serious crisis."

Adewole's message

At exactly 3:46 p.m. on Tuesday, Mr. Adebayo shared his tweet saying, “Chinua Achebe was right that leadership is Nigeria’s problem. Where are the real leaders? The same drama every election year is not progress. @GEJonathan saved us in 2015. Now is the time for @atiku and @PeterObi to show they love Nigeria. Time to call @officialABAT.

“I have more grievances than all the presidential candidates combined. I am the least satisfied with the results. I am unhappy with the choice of the electorate. but the choice is clear. We can be more honest all around."

According to Mr. Adebayo, the message became necessary because of the actions of the Labor Party and the PDP. He said the two opposition political parties were playing into the hands of Nigeria's enemies.

He said, "Why are we doing all this drama? Why did we criticize Trump then? All the trouble Trump caused, all the damage he caused, he still had to go. So the process is usually like this.

"So I'm just appealing. I'm not saying people can't complain, but if this country was making progress, that outcome is pretty clear. Even though I'm not happy with that, I've accepted the verdict for the good of this country."

Mr. Adebayo said he would never have recommended the ruling APC for a Nigerian to vote, but he said he agreed that was the choice made by the electorate. "We all know that elections have consequences and people should be left to bear the consequences of their decision."

“Normally, if everyone sat quietly at the readback center and waited for the result to be announced, and then chose to go to court afterwards, there would have been no need for this message. press that these two parties organize and the way they mobilize the public, distorting their grievances, which is only a technical matter, is why I am speaking out,” he added.

Commendation for former GEJ President

The presidential candidate also praised former President Goodluck Jonathan for what he described as his statesmanlike conduct in 2015.

He said Mr. Jonathan's congratulatory call to then President-elect Muhammadu Buhari saved Nigeria from a grave crisis.

"The former president knew what Mr. Orubebe was doing at the collection center could be followed by an unprecedented level of violence and public unrest, so he made the call and became a hero. C is what I expect these two opposition leaders to do also in these circumstances,” he added.
