The Northern States Christian Elders Forum on Tuesday condemned the murder of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Achi, in Niger State and the kidnapping of 25 other Christian worshipers in Niger State. 'Katsina State by terrorists last Sunday.

NOSCEF also expressed concern over the growing wave of insecurity in parts of the region ahead of general elections across the country.

These were in a statement by NOSCEF Chairman Ejoga Inalegwu released to reporters in Kaduna on Tuesday.

The statement read: “The NOSCEF again expresses its concern over the continuing killings in the North, specifically targeting Christian clerics. Communities in southern Kaduna and Niger states are the most affected.

"With improved surveillance and dissuasive measures taken by the security forces to combat insecurity, we are surprised at the deterioration of the situation in these areas.

"We call on governments at the state and federal levels to provide the security forces with the necessary support to sustain the push against the insurgency plaguing the country, especially as it approaches of the 2023 elections, so that no part of the country is disenfranchised for reasons of insecurity."

The forum said it was surprised that while politicians were able to make nightly visits to hitherto high insecurity areas without any incidents, sustained attacks on southern communities from Kaduna were recorded around the same time.< /em>
