AFC extends pilot edition of 2022 Women's Club Championship

August 12 - The Asian Football Confederation has expanded its 2022 Women's Club Championship to six clubs from six different nations as part of the competition's first pilot that covers all of Asia.

The expanded competition will take place in two regions for the first time, with the East starting on August 15, followed by the West five days later, before ending with a final between the two champions in conjunction with the 2022 AFC Cup final. October 22.

The 2022 pilot tournament is part of the path towards the launch of the full AFC Women's Champions League in 2024.

To date, the AFC has held pilot tournaments in its East and West zones, with Japan's Nippon TV Beleza winning the first edition in 2019 while Jordan's Amman SC won the trophy in 2021.

For 2022, Chonburi in Thailand will host teams from the Eastern Region, including the College of Asian Scholars, ISPE WFC from Myanmar and Taichung Blue Whale from Chinese Taipei.

ISPE WFC and Taichung Blue Whale at Chonburi Stadium on Monday 15 August. College of Asian Scholars and ISPE WFC will play on August 18 while the final match three days later will be between Taichung Blue Whale FC and College of AsianScholars.

In the West, the competition will be held in Qarshi, Uzbekistan at the Markaziy Stadium.

Teams competing are home team Sogdiana-W, India's Sree Gokulam Kerala FC and Bam Khatoon from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The opening game will see a mouth-watering clash between Sogdiana-W and Bam Khatoon FC on August 20 while Sree Gokulam Kerala and Sogdiana-W are set to settle accounts three days later. The last match in the region will be played on August 26 between Bam Khatoon FC and Sree Gokulam Kerala.
