After a final release date change, 'Dead Island 2' will arrive a week early

"You asked for it. You got it."

After far too many delays to count, Dead Island 2 once again has a new release date. This time, however, publisher Deep Silver is pushing the game for a week. Instead of arriving on April 28 as planned, the game will now release on consoles and PC on April 21. “You asked for it, you got it. Dead Island 2 has gone gold and is releasing a week earlier," the company said on Twitter.

Notably, the release date change means that Dead Island 2 will not arrive on the same day as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Both games were set to release on consoles and PC on the same day after Electronic Arts delayed Respawn's new game late last month. Deep Silver hasn't said as much, but after years of hellish development, the last thing he probably wanted was for Dead Island 2 to directly compete with the big new Star Wars release. p>

Dead Island 2 was first announced in 2014. During that time, it moved to two different studios before reappearing last August. The sequel to 2011's Dead Island will be available for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Epic Games Store. This will be the first game to feature Amazon's Alexa Game Control technology.
