AIG Echeng pledges to fight insecurity, at home in the Southeast

Deputy Inspector General of Police, AIG, Zone 9 Umuahia, Echeng Echeng has revealed that he is willing to partner with Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru to tackle insecurity ranging from kidnappings, armed robberies and illegal sit-at-home orders in the South-East geopolitical zone.

Echeng made this known during a courtesy visit to Nwifuru at the new government headquarters, Centenary City, Abakaliki, the state capital.

While expressing great concern over the growing insecurity in the area, he however said he needed the partnership of the governors of the area to allow security agencies to nip in the bud the unrest caused by thugs.

According to him: “Ebonyi State is one of the five (5) states in the South Eastern region, and it has its own particular security challenges, which border on insurgency by out-of-state members. ESN law, kidnapping for ransom, theft and other social vices.

“These challenges are not insurmountable like any other challenges. We are here to meet this particular challenge. Under Area 9, Ebonyi State remains the most peaceful state.

“As serious as this challenge is, we are ready and the only way to solve this problem is to fight the battle against the very people who are at the origin of this security breach in the Southeast region . This battle cannot be won with the security agencies alone, but with the support of everyone in the area."

In response, Governor Nwifuru applauded the efforts of security officers, which he said resulted in nearly zero percent in cases of kidnappings and other criminal activities in the state.

He said kidnappings were out of fashion in the state, adding that his administration had continued to witness peace and order since he took office.

He said: "We are currently facing serious security challenges in the Southeast, but it is a man-made challenge. And I am sure that with proper cooperation between security agencies security, we will certainly succeed."
