Alawe installs Fayemi's wife as Akorewolu of Ilawe

The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, installed the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, as Akorewolu of Ilawe-Ekiti in South Ekiti Local Government Area -West of the State.

The traditional leader who spoke at Mrs. Fayemi's installation as Akorewolu of Ilawe Ekiti, described the governor and his wife as a blessing to the Ilawe-Ekiti community throughout their mandate in the state.

He pointed out that the Kingdom of Ilawe enjoyed unprecedented independence under Fayemi's administration; adding that it was during his tenure that he assumed the prestigious post of Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers of Ekiti, where he served a peaceful term.

"It was under the Fayemi regime that I was appointed Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers of Ekiti State, a feat that could not be achieved for several years by any Alawe due to the challenges thrown at him by certain people who considered themselves lords.

"The Alawe specifically mentioned two Ilawe monarchs, namely: Oba Afinbiokin and Oba Akinola Adefolalu, who suffered humiliations because they fought for their rights and refused to cede the independence of Ilawe to any overlord Oba elsewhere," his special adviser on the media, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi said in a statement.

Oba Alabi praised the governor's wife for her many efforts to eradicate gender-based violence (GBV) in the state, praying to God to reward the outgoing governor and his wife with higher positions in the service of Nigeria.

In response, Ms. Fayemi thanked Oba Alabi and the community for the honor and for recognizing the various government interventions in the city.

She said, "With this chiefdom, I am now an indigenous Ilawe-Ekiti and I will continue to support the community at all times."
