Alberta Ferretti Spring 2023

Alberta Ferretti was looking for touches, details and unexpected color combinations for its spring collection. "I always like to add a surprising element to my designs," the designer said ahead of her show in Milan. Tuck the flowing silk pants under a skirt in a juxtaposition of contrasting yet surprisingly attractive hues - a sage green top over bright sky blue pants, for example.

This season Ferretti chose to show more pants than usual, but they were very feminine , in tune with its time-honored style. In fact, she touted the idea that designers should "evolve their styles naturally while staying true to their core values." In her case, she said that "certain proportions and a strong respect for the body remain", avoiding chasing seasonal trends. There's no denying that she understands what her clients want and her designs aim to improve and improve, never hiding or restricting.

For spring, Ferretti's wife packed her bags to explore the world. An organza parka over suede trousers and a precious embroidered top illustrate her sophisticated vision of comfort. The crocheted tops were embroidered with hand-inserted stones, paying homage, she says, to Italian craftsmanship.

Lightness ran throughout the collection, with jackets showing handkerchief hemlines, lightweight trench coats as a feather and some transparencies under the raffia tunics, culminating in the beautiful silk and chiffon dresses by Ferretti, some enriched with a cascade of embroidered and stylized leaves - another example of the craftsman's manual skill.
