Amotekun intercepts 140 travelers in Ibadan, escorts them to Ogun border

About 140 travelers from Zamfara en route to Ogere, Ogun State, loaded onto a truck were intercepted in the Bodija area of ​​Ibadan on Tuesday by men from the Oyo State Amotekun Corps.

Some residents of the Bodija market area had informed Amotekun of their suspicions upon seeing the truck loaded with sacks of onions, beans, potatoes and motorbikes with travelers from the North including men, women , young people and children caught in between.

The truck was then moved to Amotekun's office in Dandaru, Ibadan, where the travelers were interviewed while the items in the truck were unloaded and the truck searched.

During his interrogation at the Amotekun office, the driver of the truck, Abuja BWR 143 XD, Abdullahi Aliu, stated that he was transporting the items and travelers to Ogere, Ogun State, and that he had only unloaded certain items at the Bodija market.

Asked why he was carrying so many, Aliu said he helped some of them during the trip because they had no transportation costs.

Men from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police were on hand to search and question the travellers.

After search and questioning, security agencies stated that no incriminating objects were found on the travelers and in the truck.

Security agencies subsequently decided to escort the travelers to the Ogun State border to continue their journey to Ogere, once their destination was confirmed.

Governor Seyi Makinde's special assistant in Arewa, Ahmed Muritala, who was present at Amotekun's office, condemned the truck driver for transporting so many at a time when the nation was facing problems safety.

Muritala said he called the owner of the vehicle to be wary of transporting so many people from the north at such a time.

He added that he supported travelers being escorted out of state.
