Anambra boat accident: Obiano offers his condolences to Soludo and the families of the victims
Former Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano has expressed his condolences to State Governor Chukwuma Soludo following a boat accident involving 85 people in the local government area of Anambra. 'State Ogbaru.
In his condolence message made available by his media assistant, Tony Nezianya, to Awka reporters on Monday, Obiano said, "I sympathize with the government and the families of the crash victims.
>"This incident has aggravated the deplorable situation following the huge deadly floods that have displaced people from their original lands, washing away homes and agricultural land.
“Floods have also wreaked havoc in Anambra East and West, Ayamelum as well as Ogbaru areas of the state.
"I have been informed that many have died as a result of displacement caused by the raging floods, as well as agricultural land which has been washed away.
"I urge the government to take action to tackle the emergency head-on.
"I call on the federal government to show leadership at this time to mitigate the disaster by ensuring the rapid release of green funds to help the state deal with the emergency.
''Diligent intervention by all stakeholders will undoubtedly reduce the burden imposed by this disaster, while deliberate efforts must begin in implementing a permanent solution to the disaster.
"It is climate change that has combined to make this annual disaster worse.
"I share the grief of the victims of the emergency, who should endeavor to follow the government's sage advice to evacuate to safety until the floodwaters recede.
"May we remember in our prayers all those who have died so far as a result of the floods that have devastated our state over the past two weeks.
“Besides the Cameroonian dam releasing excess water from its installation, other Nigerian dams like Kainji have also released their water, Obiano noted.
