The agency's Executive Director, Mr. Johnbosco Ementa, made the statement during a two-day stakeholder meeting hosted by the agency in Awka on Thursday.

Ementa said the forum was organized for various stakeholders to reflect on how best to scale up the campaign to eliminate HIV transmission in the state.

He emphasized that the meeting was an opportunity to interact, share knowledge and highlight the challenges the state faces in terms of HIV transmission, with a view to addressing them.

He lamented the situation saying the agency was working tirelessly with stakeholders to mitigate the impact.

He said, "It is sad to note that Anambra is the fifth highest country in Nigeria in terms of HIV transmission among people aged 15-49.

"The agency works tirelessly to ensure its reduction or elimination by promoting behavioral change in the low and high population, increasing awareness and awareness among the general population.

“We are also working with targeted stakeholders to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS in the state.

“Let me also inform you that plans are underway to incorporate the HIV Stigma Abatement Bill 2014 in Anambra State.”

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, on his part called for more efforts to reduce HIV transmission in the state.

Obidike, who was represented by Director of Public Health, Dr. Afam Anaeme, said HIV prevention is a task that needs to be done and supported in the state.

"The disease transmission pattern has made prevention a little difficult in the state, but Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration is committed to providing residents with quality health services.

"I urge the agency to do more to ensure that HIV transmission is significantly reduced in the state," he said.
