Road accident in Anambra leaves two dead and eight injured

An adult man and a girl died in a road accident at the Curtis gas station along the Nteje-Awka highway in Anambra state on Saturday.

The incident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace commercial bus marked AGL552JT and a Daf/commercial truck without registration number.

Eleven people, including four adult males, four adult females and three female children, were reportedly involved in the accident and eight people were reported to have suffered varying degrees of injury.< /p>

An eyewitness attributed the cause of the accident to the obstruction of the road. The eyewitness said the Daf truck developed a fault in the early hours of Saturday, stating that while repairing the vehicle, the Toyota Hiace bus collided with the parked truck and crashed.

Margaret Onabe, Acting Public Education Officer for Federal Road Safety Corps Area Commander, Anambra State, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Onabe said the RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command Rescue Team took the victims to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu, where an adult male and a girl were confirmed died, indicating that others were receiving treatment.

She added that the victims were dropped off at the same hospital morgue.

She said, "The FRSC Rescue Team from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command took the victims to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu, where an adult male and female have been confirmed dead, while others are receiving treatment. The deceased victims have been deposited at the same hospital morgue. The rescue team is still on the ground managing the traffic to ensure that the obstruction caused by the accident is cleared.

“The Anambra State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathizes with the family of the deceased victims and sent his prayers to the injured. »

Onabe noted that the sector commander warned motorists to concentrate on driving, observe the surroundings, provide sufficient distance and ensure that their headlights and taillights brakes were functional.
