ASUU strike: I will fire all Kaduna teachers - wishes from El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has threatened to fire all professors at Kaduna State University (KASU) if they continue to observe the University Academic Staff Union strike (ASUU).

DAILY POST reports that ASUU has been on strike since February over the federal government's failure to meet its demands.

Numerous attempts by the government to get teachers back into classrooms have so far failed to yield results.

On Monday, unions began solidarity protests in parts of the country with the ASUU.

However, during a radio broadcast in Kaduna on Wednesday, El-Rufai told teachers to return to classrooms to avoid their posts being declared vacant, adding that KASU teachers are not had no reason to join a strike.

According to him, ASUU had a problem with the federal government, not the state government.

He said: "The Acting Vice-Chancellor assured me that they would resume, but I asked them to know if they had indeed returned to work, as I had originally requested that their salary be stopped But I was told later that they hadn't joined the strike, so I demanded that there be an investigation and those who received wages and joined the strike would be asked to reimburse the salary.

"It's because Nigerian law says 'no work, no pay'. This is the law. So anyone who joined the strike will not receive a salary. We told KASU teachers that they had no problem with the state government. ASUU's problem is with the federal government. So why will our staff who have no problem with us join the strike?

“If this continues, I will wake up one day to fire them all, I swear to God. We will fire them all and declare their vacancies in the pages of the newspapers. Once they did the same thing and we gave them a warning, now they repeated it. I am just waiting to receive the report from the education commissioner. I swear to God that we will fire everyone who joined the strike if they refuse to return to work. »
