Atiku: 'Obasanjo's image on redesigned naira will lead to disaster' - Primate Ayodele warns CBN, Buhari
The leader of the Evangelical Spiritual Church of INRI, the Primate Elijah Ayodele, has tackled the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku, for asking the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to use the image of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the redesigned naira banknotes.
Primate Ayodele has warned that the image of Obasanjo on the new naira will lead Nigeria to disaster and economic collapse.
Atiku made the statement yesterday on his Twitter page while celebrating Obasanjo for leading a team from the African Union, the AU, in resolving the crisis in Ethiopia.
However, Primate Ayodele accused Atiku of promoting Obasanjo, who he believes will never be able to love him.
Ayodele cautioned Buhari against listening to Atiku as he did with CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele on the naira overhaul.
He said the naira would collapse beyond what it is now and there would be difficulties if Obasanjo's image was engraved on the naira note.
He said, “Why are you promoting Obasanjo? economy. As soon as they put the image of Obasanjo on our currency, the economy will fail.
"The image of Obasanjo on our naira is like a disaster, a catastrophe so I don't know why Atiku made such a statement; he should quickly withdraw the statement. Is he using it to his campaign, or what? Will Obasanjo win him? Will he make him president? Will that change Obasanjo's mind about him? Not at all; that's bad advice .
"This statement of Atiku is not articulated; it is "Atiku-wrong, Atiku-failed" because the moment Obasanjo's image on this money will bring hardship and bankruptcy to our economy , the naira will crash totally. Atiku doesn't know what he's saying about that; you don't need to play politics with our economy.
"President Buhari should not listen to Atiku the same way he listened to Emefiele. The naira overhaul is like going from a frying pan to a fire. We don't need to a new currency or a rebrand it won't help us we just need God to save our economy, overhaul is not what we need, I pray that God helps the leaders to understand ."
