Ayu Escalates PDP Crisis, He Should Resign, Says CUPP Spokesperson Ugochinyere
Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) Spokesman Ikenga Ugochinyere said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu was aggravating the crisis besetting the party by plotting allegedly against party candidates who opposed him (Ayu).
Ikenga, who is the party's candidate for the House of Representatives for Ideato North-South Constituency of Imo State, disapproved of Ayu's decision to contest the assembly candidate's victory from Ideato South, Chris Ogbu, to the Supreme Court.
Ugochinyere, in a statement Thursday, called the decision provocative with consequences.
He described Ayu as a man trying to get revenge on Ogbu for challenging his illegal continued rule.
While noting that the PDP National Chairman likes to plot against party candidates who oppose him to lose the upcoming elections, Ugochinyere insisted that “Ayu will not be the PDP National Chairman before the elections. General of 2023 for this small attempt he made".
He said, "Ayu is a political traitor whose continued office as National Chairman of the PDP is a waste. Ogbu did nothing to him, he is the valid winner and candidate for the South Constituency of the 'Imo House of Assembly Ideato, who dragged Ayu to court for abuse of power and bribery and now Ayu has joined the lawsuit to challenge his election and ask Ogbu to be impeached.
"It's actually shocking that a man whose house is on fire, rather than looking for ways to put out the fire, is busy making it worse. It's not the first time that he does that, he likes to plot against party candidates who oppose him to lose the next election You will recall that two months ago Ayu openly bragged about having the power to prevent the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom to realize his senatorial ambition on the party platform.
"Ortom's offense simply and rightly called for the resignation of Ayu as party chairman as the only panacea to restore peace to the main opposition party. This abuse of power by Ayu must cease and I swear that he will not be the national chairman of the PDP before the 2023 general election, he must resign or be sacked."
