The Okemesi Community of Ekiti West Local Government in Ekiti State has sounded the alarm over the imminent danger following the diversion of traffic to the roads linking the town due to their poor condition.< /p>

The National Publicity Secretary, Federation of Okemesi Improvement Unions, Abraham Adeleye, said the roads, especially those linking Imesi to the borders and suburbs of Osun State, were not not in good condition and impassable for heavy vehicles if accidents were to be avoided.< /p>

Adeleye, in a statement titled "Ekiti Bad Roads: Okemesi Roads Are Also Crumbling, Community Urges Caution Amid Traffic Diversion", alerted the general public, government and commuters to the imminent dangers related to the use of the road if certain measures have not been put in place as a matter of urgency.

The community said, "The passage of heavy vehicles is not advised, especially along the borders and suburbs of Okemesi and Osun State to prevent avoidable accidents.

"The bridges connecting Okemesi to Esa-Oke and Imesi-Ile require patience and good driving skills to avoid hitting the gap created by erosion and years of neglect. If a vehicle articulated attempted to follow the same route, it could cause accidents or even the total collapse of the bridge.

“The old bridge over the Osun River connecting Ijero to Okemesi Ekiti is also suffering the same fate and the vibration rate of recent times is alarming. We would not like our community to be mentioned for any incident, hence the need for this alert.

“We call on government at all levels to come to our aid and repair all damaged parts of the roads so that we are not cut off from the world as the effects on our agrarian economy would not be acceptable,” said the community. .

Recall that due to the collapse of some roads in the state and ongoing rehabilitation work, the Federal Road Safety Corps had announced last week: "Those coming to Ado must take Efon - Okemesi - Ijero -Ido - Ado Ekiti Vehicles passing through Ifaki Ekiti should deviate at the Ifaki Ekiti junction and follow Ifaki – Ido – Ijero – Ikoro – Okemesi – Efon Alaaye This is only for smaller vehicles as directed by the engineer of the website".

The FRSC, which alerted the public to the risk associated with the Efon-Ikogosi road, said: "The possible and safe road is Efon - Okemesi and Ifaki - Ijero-Okemesi - Iwaraja/Ilesa."
