Baffled locals slam council for spending thousands on 'world's shortest cycle route'

Baffled locals blame the council for spending thousands of dollars on "the world's shortest cycle path", which is just 2.4 meters long. The council says this is not a cycle route but a "guide" for cyclists

Residents have slammed a council for spending thousands of dollars on "the shortest cycle route in the world world", which takes less than a second to travel.

The white painted stretch is only 8 feet long and features an unbalanced rectangle with a bicycle and an arrow pointing left, directing cyclists to a pedestrian sidewalk.

The strange road marking was painted on a recently tarred road in Birmingham city center and aims to help cyclists get around the city during the Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham City Council says this is not a cycle lane but a "hint" for cyclists to get off due to the bull street tram tracks.
