CCII traces the existing peace, economic growth in Yorubaland to the post-war peace treaty of Kiriji

The Central Council of Indigenous Peoples of Ibadan (CCII) has insisted on the unity of the Yoruba land, arguing that this is the only way to repel external aggressions.

Its President, Prince Oluyemisi Adetayo Adeaga, who made it known during the launch of a week-long program commemorating the celebration of the Empire of Ibadan: the Kiriji War and the Treaty of peace of the Yoruba, said that there can be no significant progress in an atmosphere of peace, hence why Yoruba at home and in the Diaspora must embrace peace in order to attract local and foreign investors .

He alluded to the fact that the end of Kiriji's 17-year war heralded peace in Yorubaland and, therefore, called for its sustenance.

Adeaga, who traced the prevalence of peace in all Yorubaland communities to the post-Kiriji war treaty, underscored the need for Yoruba people, regardless of their state of origin, to forge a front common.

He maintained that this is the only way to ward off aggression from outside forces and jealously guide the territories of the various Yoruba communities.

He noted that the ancient city of Ibadan had in the past served as a security umbrella for various Yoruba communities.

Adeaga added that great warriors in the city have in the past provided security assistance to nearby communities.

The spirit of Brotherhood, he says, has contributed to the economic growth of Ibadan.

According to him, the Ibadan Empire existed before the famous 17-year Kiriji War. The peace enjoyed by Yorubaland is attributable to the peace agreement signed after the war.

The maintenance of the peace agreement is one of the factors responsible for the population growth of Ibadan.

Ibadan was simply great because its warriors were valiant brave soldiers who quickly established career progressions for their captives with opportunities to become slave masters.

Adeaga, who attributed various challenges facing the nation to the neglect of traditional institutions, said it was high time to change mindsets in order to right age-old wrongs.

He said that the CCII has decided to mark the Empire of Ibadan which will include a visit to Imesi Island where the peace treaty after the Kiriji war was signed, conferences and other activities in order to connect past to present

The President also stressed the need for the different Yoruba groups to come together under one roof.
