The Lagos State government has reiterated its commitment to “diligently prosecute” Andrew Ominikoron, the suspect in the rape and death of Bamise Ayanwola.

This is contained in a statement by T.K Shitta-Bey, Permanent Secretary of the State Department of Justice, on Sunday.

Ms Ayanwola, 22, disappeared on her way back from Ajah to Ota on 26 February. She had boarded a BRT bus number 240257 heading for Oshodi around 7 p.m. at the Chevron bus stop. His body was discovered a few days later.

The murder suspect, a BRT driver, denied any involvement in the incident.

The state government released the statement ahead of its posthumous first birthday, Nov. 30.

“As we approach the posthumous first anniversary of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, the Lagos State Government once again sympathizes with the family for the incident which led to the untimely death of their loved one,” reads the press release.

“The Government wishes to reiterate that it will spare no effort, through the Department of Justice, to ensure the diligent prosecution of the accused - Andrew Nice Ominikoron.

"To fulfill this obligation, the accused was arrested by the police on March 7, 2022."

Ms Shitta-Bey said that in an effort to demonstrate how important the case is, it is being handled by Moyosore Onigbanjo, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
