A tourism campaign based on the film took off and turned its dark history into a splashy promotion for Ireland's west coast islands.

Inis Mór (Inishmore) and Achill Island, the islands where Martin McDonagh's black comedy was filmed, are marketing the locations, and a Tourism Ireland video on the making of the film has attracted more 6 million views. The hope is that visitors will come for the landscapes rather than the toxic relationships depicted in the film.

The tourism spin-off should grow if the film, which won screenplay and acting awards at Venice, keep racking up the rewards. Eight Golden Globe nominations have made him a favorite for next year's Globes and Oscars.

"We want to capitalize on Ireland's positive exposure, bringing the beautiful scenery of the Wild Atlantic Way to grab people's attention in some of our key markets and inspire them to come and visit,” said Niall Gibbons, Managing Director of Tourism Ireland.
