Barca confirm €98m profit for 2021-22, expect €271m for current season

September 20 - Barcelona have announced profits of €98m for the 2021-22 campaign and plan to earn a further €271m in the current season, despite crippling debts which at one point given, prevented him from registering all his summer signings for this season.

Barca overcame the spending restriction by releasing funding via so-called 'economic levers' which involved selling shares of their future television rights and media production unit.

The deal to sell 10% of domestic TV rights to global investment firm Sixth Street was worth more than €200 million and closed before the June 30 deadline for the coming financial year to be published. This has improved the 2021-22 financial statements

Barça then sold a further 15% to Sixth Street in July for over 300 million euros, as well as raising additional funds through the sale of a 49% stake in Barça Studios as part of two separate transactions, raising an additional €200 million.

This gave them the financial headroom under LaLiga rule to register all of their summer signings.

The club said on Monday its board had closed the financial year with a turnover of 1.017 billion euros - enabling them to turn a profit for the first time since the pandemic - and approved a budget operating profit of 1.255 billion euros for this season.

The figures show a significant turnaround from 2020-21, when Barca suffered losses of over 400 million euros and could not afford Lionel Messi's new contract, which led the Argentine superstar to join Paris St Germain on a free transfer.

LaLiga have warned that Barca, who launched a huge recruitment drive this summer, may have to cut spending further as their limit could drop next season.

"Barcelona's limit is [up to] €656m and they needed that full amount, that's why they were still registering players at the last minute," La Liga president says Javier Tebas during the presentation of spending limits this month.< /p>

"Without the [asset sale], it might not be so high next season. They might have to cut their payroll, sell players or even [sell more] assets. I think [Barca vice-president Eduard] Romeu said they need it for around €400 and something like a million But they know all that, it will be difficult for them to maintain [the new limit] the next season."
