Barcelona defender not interested in Arsenal switch despite Mikel Arteta's eagerness to reunite

According to reports in Spain, former Manchester City centre-half Eric Garcia is not interested in leaving Barcelona despite interest from Arsenal.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in defensive reinforcements due to the lack of depth behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Benjamin White has operated at right-back this season and could move into midfield if Arteta is forced to play him there, with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares waiting in the wings.

However, apart from White, Gabriel and Saliba, the Spanish manager's only other centre-half option is Rob Holding.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Evan Ndicka from Eintracht Frankfurt when his contract expires at the end of the season.

As a left-footed player, Ndicka can compete with Gabriel and would be a very good signing if brought on a free transfer.

Looking at Manchester City and Liverpool - who have both competed at the top of the Premier League for the past five years - it is necessary that the title contenders have plenty of defensive options.

City have Nathan Ake, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias, which is a superb amount of talent competing for a starting spot.

With this in mind, Fichajes claimed that Arsenal want to sign Eric Garcia - who is currently out of favor at Barcelona.

Arteta worked with Garcia when they were both at City and is apparently a big fan of the player.

However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have now claimed that the young defender does not want a Barcelona exit.

The 22-year-old has started just eight La Liga appearances and two Champions League appearances this season, with Xavi favoring Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

"The teams have knocked on the door" and Garcia is struggling to get playing time. Arsenal are "among" those teams to show interest.

Arteta 'sees it as an option', but the player is not looking to leave Barca at the moment.

It is claimed that Garcia believes he can become a regular starter at Camp Nou if he 'keeps working the same way'.

Arsenal should be busy in this month's transfer window with Mykhaylo Mudryk as their main target.

Shakhtar Donetsk are playing tough with the Gunners, trying to secure an exorbitant fee for the player, with the Premier League leaders having already rejected two offers.

Arteta could also be looking to strengthen his midfield. They were linked with youngster Danilo de Palmeiras last summer.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly made an £18million bid to sign Danilo, but if Arsenal were to replace him, you would expect the player to favor a move to north London.
