The main BBC primetime news presenter, Huw Edwards, and his family receive advice from former tabloid News of the World editor Andy Coulson, reports The Guardian.

before releasing her statement identifying her husband on Wednesday night.

The presenter is currently hospitalized, according to his wife, following allegations that he paid £35,000 for inappropriate photos of teenage crack user.

Coulson runs a public relations agency specializing in crisis management. He previously edited News of the World between 2003 and 2007, and later became Prime Minister David Cameron's communications director. He was imprisoned in 2014 for hacking offenses.

His support for Edwards puts him at odds with his former boss, News UK boss Rupert Murdoch and owner of The Sun newspaper, which first published the allegations but faced backlash in some quarters following the Met Police's decision not to pursue an investigation criminal.

The Sun said yesterday that its original story is in the interest public because it gave a "voice to two worried parents".

Although Edwards has yet to speak publicly, his former colleague Jon Sopel told ITV Good Morning UK:

"We had contact, obviously not since he was hospitalized. He was very healthy angry, I think he felt very disappointed with what happened in The Sun, he was furious with their cover. Not too impressed with the BBC coverage either. Everyone who knows him can only wish him well."
