Bowen University has graduated 318 doctors in 15 years - Provost

Bowen University College of Health Sciences, Iwo, has trained 318 doctors for induction into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) over the past 15 years. He has obtained board and National Universities Commission (NUC) approval to run medical programs at the university.

College Provost Professor Olayele Olabiyi made the statement during the 8th induction ceremony held for the college's 2,023 medical graduate students, 65 of them, led by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, held at Baptist Medical Center, Ogbomoso recently.

According to the provost, the University College of Health Sciences took off in the 2008/2009 session after NUC verification in September 2008 and final approval. Immediately, he said, students were admitted to start MBBS programs with two disciplines; Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Bachelor of Anatomy.

Prof Olabiyi noted that the Bowen College of Health Sciences was built on one of the oldest medical centers in Nigeria, established in 1907 by the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
