Bowen University has graduated 318 doctors in 15 years - Provost
Bowen University College of Health Sciences, Iwo, has trained 318 doctors for induction into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) over the past 15 years. He has obtained board and National Universities Commission (NUC) approval to run medical programs at the university.
College Provost Professor Olayele Olabiyi made the statement during the 8th induction ceremony held for the college's 2,023 medical graduate students, 65 of them, led by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, held at Baptist Medical Center, Ogbomoso recently.
According to the provost, the University College of Health Sciences took off in the 2008/2009 session after NUC verification in September 2008 and final approval. Immediately, he said, students were admitted to start MBBS programs with two disciplines; Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Bachelor of Anatomy.

Prof Olabiyi noted that the Bowen College of Health Sciences was built on one of the oldest medical centers in Nigeria, established in 1907 by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. He said the center has attracted various health cases from the highest to the lowest from the South West including Lagos State which the students of the university are exposed to in their training process. /p>
"Academic stability, committed staff, and adequate teaching and research facilities/equipment set Bowen University College of Health Sciences apart from other medical training institutions in the country, in terms of quality products. We instill a education in character and piety in our medical training profession, which may not be found in many other medical schools in the country,” he said.
The university's former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who chaired the programme, congratulated the new inductees for their brilliant performance in their final MBBS professional examinations.

"Accept a series of curiosities and never stop asking questions, because you should make efforts to explore new avenues of research and seek interdisciplinary collaboration in the medical world. The world needs creativity and an innovative spirit, of someone capable of meeting the pressing health challenges of our time, from the global pandemic to chronic diseases.The university has you fully equipped to tackle the task in the health sector Therefore, the world needs your expertise and your commitment to make it better," he said.
Speaking in the same vein on the occasion, the top graduate medical student of 2023, Dr. Miss Odafen Praise described Bowen University College of Health Sciences as a great learning environment. She said the lecturers were accessible and friendly to the students.
According to her, every student at the university has easy access to learning materials, teaching and research equipment/facilities at the hospital. “Bowen University College of Health Sciences stands out from other universities in Nigeria in terms of piety and excellence,” she said.
Furthermore, Dr. (Ms.) Sarah Odafen said that Bowen University is a well-organized institution of learning in Nigeria. According to her, all of their graduating students have a good reputation in their various workplaces. She said the aspect of piety and excellence in education at Bowen University set them apart from other doctors at other universities in the country.
Similarly, Rev. Mrs. Temilola Adewumi confirmed that Bowen University College of Health Sciences is one of the reliable medical colleges in Nigeria where students are well motivated to believe in what God can do through them.
According to her, students are motivated to prioritize Bowen University's motto: Excellence and Piety. They are motivated to work hard and ensure that they continually strive to be better and more effective practicing physicians in our changing contemporary world.
