Former Federation Government Secretary Babachir Lawal and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara said their visit to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, was not political.

Babachir and Dogara held a closed meeting with the Governor at his private residence in Rumueprikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Their visit came just 24 hours after Wike broke his silence since the People's Democratic Party presidential primary where former vice president Atiku Abubarkar emerged as the candidate of the gone.

Speaking in a phone interview with Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, Babachir said they (including Dogara) were free to visit anyone, adding that those who had a bad impression of the visit should know that he was working with the governors. when he was the SGF.

"We are free to visit anyone in the country. Those insinuating anything should know that I was the Secretary of the Federation Government and worked with all the governors.

“So we are free to visit anyone. Not everything is political and those who insinuate anything outside of this are free to continue,” Babachir stressed. .

Speaking with reporters earlier in Port Harcourt, Babachir said their mission was a brotherly visit to the governor.

He said, “We came to visit our brother. He (Wike) is our brother. So, from time to time, the Bible enjoins you to visit. That's what we just did."

Babachir added that the interaction with the state governor had nothing to do with the meeting of some northern leaders held in Abuja on Friday.

"No, there are many reasons in the world why you should visit a brother. So the visit has nothing to do with our meeting in Abuja,” he explained.

Furthermore, Dogara framed his visit on the quest and research to build an all-inclusive Nigeria.

“Everyone agrees with us that Wike is one of those indispensable political leaders. For us, it is a quest to build an all-inclusive Nigeria.

"So we feel that as part of setting the agenda, we should meet him and that's why we're here." For the rest, anyway, maybe in the future we can discuss it,” he said.

'APC doesn't care'

Meanwhile, All Progressives Congress Deputy Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Darlington Uwauju, said the party was not bothered by frequent visits from prominent politicians at Wike.

It's like Uwauju said that Wike had turned his private residence into some sort of mecca where people come for a weekly photo shoot.

"The outgoing Governor of Rivers State has turned his mansion in Rumueprikon into a kind of mecca where people come for a weekly photo op in the name of a political or private visit," said he said.
