BREAKING: Seven-storey building collapses in Lagos, six trapped

As many as six people have been trapped in the rubble of a collapsed seven-storey building near the Sand Field bus stand in Lekki area, Lagos State.

Emergency responders have been deployed to begin rescue operations at the scene.

Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

He said, “A seven-story building has collapsed at Sand Field Bus Stop, Lekki. Six people are said to be trapped and responders on the ground.”

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Permanent Secretary Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu in his reaction to the incident said that upon his arrival it was discovered that the seven-story building floors was under construction when it collapsed.

He said: "No injuries were sustained. However, approximately six people are believed to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.

"The agency's heavy equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of trapped victims. We have activated the Lagos State Response Plan. The operation is ongoing. Further updates days will follow."
