BREAKING NEWS: Vice President Ruto wins Kenyan presidential election

Kenya's incumbent vice president, William Ruto, has been declared the winner of the just-concluded presidential election in the East African country.

Mr. Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes in last Tuesday's elections, which represents 50.07% of the total votes cast and he won the minimum of 25% of the votes in 39 counties.

Announcing Mr. Ruto as president-elect, Wafula Chebukati, chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), said, "In accordance with the Constitution and the law, the President of the IEBC hereby declares that Ruto William Samoei was duly elected President of the Republic of Kenya under Article 138 of the Constitution from the presidential election held on 9th August 2022.”

Mr. Ruto defeated his main challenger Raila Odinga and two other candidates.

Mr. Odinga enjoyed the support of outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.
