Buhari to inaugurate new 50 megawatt gas-fired power station in Maiduguri

President Muhammadu Buhari is due to visit Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, today to inaugurate the new 50 megawatt Maiduguri gas-fired power station.

The gas plant was built by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited and would supply 50 megawatts of electricity to Maiduguri and its surroundings.

The President, during the visit, will meet and offer his condolences to the victims of the Maiduguri Monday Market following the fire disaster.

The Monday market in Maiduguri was hit by a fire on Sunday which destroyed the entire market.

Shops and goods worth billions of naira were destroyed.

The President expressed his deepest condolences to the victims of the Maiduguri market fires.

He also assures those who suffered losses from the fire that the Federal Government will do everything in its power to support the efforts of the Borno State Government to improve their lot.

He is expected to commission some federally executed projects, including the Maiduguri gas-fired power plant.
