Sha'aban, whose 17 children bought the N50 million declaration of interest and nomination forms to enable him to contest the 2023 gubernatorial election, quoted impunity and injustice as reasons to drop the ruling party in the state.

He also added that he decided to throw out the party because it did not respect the rule of law.

The gubernatorial aspirant shortly after the May 2022 APC primary in the state, approached the Federal High Court in Kaduna for exclusion from the election where the senator outgoing Kaduna Central representative, Uba Sani, was declared the winner.

But the court presided over by Judge Mohammed Garba Umar dismissed the case in early November, saying the court had no jurisdiction in the matter.

Sha'aban, however, went to the Court of Appeal where he vowed to pursue the case to a logical conclusion despite his departure from the party.

While addressing a press conference through Sani Mahmoud Sha'aban campaign organization director Mr. Joshua Danladi Ephraim, the aspirant to the post of governor, insisted he had nothing to do with a party that does not follow the rule of law.

In the letter of resignation dated November 28, 2022 and addressed to the President of the APC of his district, Hanwa,

in Sabon Gari local government area of the state, recent developments within the party have forced him to reconsider his party membership, adding that with "best efforts, the warnings and best intentions, the party has to distance itself from the masses.

Asked about his next policy move, he said he should consult "those who must love us about where to move next".

Sha'aban in the letter said in part: "Recent activities and events within the APC in Kaduna State, in particular, have forced me to reconsider my membership in the 'APC. Despite all our best efforts, admonitions and best intentions, it is disheartening to see that the APC has become more distant from the masses, and father than fostering peace, social cohesion and integration in the State of Kaduna as we envisioned and worked for, APC in Kaduna State is now seen as synonymous with hardship, division and complete disregard for human lives, community and family values.

"Rather than working to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the masses, a few elements of the APC in Kaduna State have hijacked the party structure and made it their personal property to serve their personal greed and avarice, for the sole benefit of their families, friends and cronies. They have no respect for the feelings, aspirations and sensitivities of even the many Party members who supported them, and of the general population of Kaduna State.

"As a person who firmly believes in God and in the belief that the community of the earth is for the common good of all, I have found myself unable, in good conscience, to sit down and allow this reign of impunity to continue without dissenting voices. On several occasions, I have had the opportunity to express to you my dissatisfaction with the policies and actions of the APC in Kaduna State.

"As you know, my stance on good governance, rule of law, social justice and equity has resulted in us being treated with contempt and viewed as outcasts for those who personally benefit from the skewed realities present in the APC My many admonishments, protests, actions and all my efforts to save the Party in order to put it back on the front stage to achieve the objectives set to form the Party have been individually ignored by you. There is, however, a limit to what I can do as a Party member.

"I believe I have, in good conscience before God, done my best to ward off the inevitable, but to no avail. I have come to the firm conclusion and resolve that in good conscience, I cannot remain a member of the CPA under the current state of affairs, where the interests of the majority of ordinary people are given little consideration.

"I cannot stay in a Party that has little or no regard for human lives, social integration, peace and our time-honoured and cherished community and traditional values . I cannot stay in the APC while the Party does not uphold the rule of law and the simplest of laws in the land.

"Therefore, with immediate effect, I officially and formally resign my membership in the All Progressives Congress at all levels."
