OyoDr Taofeek Abiola Olopade is a contender vying for the Oluyole Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, he talks about his vision, among other questions.

It's not news that you want to run in the next general election, what prompted your decision to get involved in Nigerian politics?

Nigerians must be enlightened that Nigerian politics or politics in general does not belong to selected people. We are in the world of democracy and everyone must be involved in order to actualize a common growth. My adventure in politics is genuine. It is painful that virtually all ordinary men on the streets of Nigeria have become beggars. No one is sure of his future. It is sad to see elderly people becoming destitute in our country, when elderly people in other parts of the world are the responsibility of the government. Moreover, the younger generation, especially the orphans, are taken care of by the government in order to be useful to themselves and their nation. But most politicians in this country think only of themselves and their pockets, regardless of the masses who elected them to power. Our country lacks leadership that thinks about the rights of its citizens. These are some of the things that break my heart and made me accept the call to join active politics.

Why do you think now is the time to represent your constituency in the Federal House of Representatives?

Thanks to my exposure in developed countries, I had several opportunities to facilitate development projects for my country, especially state, but all of them were in vain due to unjustified reasons by some elements. I felt that all my efforts had no effect because I am not in the mainstream of politics. Also, the state of things in my state and in the country at large, whenever I visit my home, baffles me. So I decided to succumb to the clarion call to fully participate in politics to explore my dreams and aspirations for ingenious developments for my homeland. Oluyole is nicknamed a rural area, when it is not. With my small exhibition, rural and urban areas share an equal right. There is no major difference and the government has provided all necessary social amenities. I realized that most Nigerian politicians enjoy getting known in other parts of the world for fun and not with the intention of using it to help grow our nation. We cannot continue to sit back and keep this going. We must stand up to right the wrongs and we can only do that by getting involved to bring about positive change to save our country from further deterioration. Personally, I am instrumental in the development of my country and I am ready to follow the course towards better lives and make a difference in policy implementation and good governance.
