When Sir Francis Drake returned home in 1580 after circumnavigating the globe, he said that the Cape Peninsula was "the most majestic thing" he had seen during the entire three-year trip.

It's still a marvel which amazes visitors with its majestic peaks, flamboyant flora and sandy beaches, now enhanced by lush vineyards and the vibrancy of South Africa's mother city.

A favorite of British travellers, Cape Town is now emerging from two years of Covid-induced restrictions. Pre-arrival testing for fully vaccinated travelers has been dropped, but face masks remain mandatory in some situations.

Tourism is operational, but at around 30% of pre-pandemic levels. That means no queues and great prices - in a week of exploring I've regularly taken Uber rides (the best way to get around) that cost under £3 and I've had cocktails in the best hotels for five five.
