Britney Spears has slammed a Catholic church in L.A., saying they won't allow her to get married there...but now the church is calling the singer, saying she never even contacted them at About a wedding.

If you missed it, Britney took to Instagram on Wednesday, posting a photo from inside St. Monica's Church and captioned, "This is where I originally wanted to get married during COVID. I wanted to go every Sunday." She continued, "Then 2 years later when I wanted to get married there they said I had to be Catholic and take the TEST!!! Isn't the church supposed to be open to all ???"

However, a church official tells us they've checked their records which show that Britney never personally visited the church or asked to have her wedding there...but they admit that at least a spouse in a marriage must be Catholic, a basic rule at all levels.

The rep tells us that the photo Britney posted appears to be from a live stream, not a photo she took on her own. We're told the church knows the couple are getting married in the photo...and that Britney was not present at their wedding.

As we reported, Britney and her now-husband tied the knot in a ceremony at the singer's L.A. home
